The correlation between economic growth and resource richness is a significant topic in the science of Development Eco-nomics,and resource-rich regions have to break the so-called"resource curse"in order to achieve sustainable development. The mismatch between the rapid expansion of cultivated land resources and economic development in Xinjiang is remarkable. In view of the"resource curse"theory, this paper builds a dual fixed effect model using panel data from 14 Xinjiang prefectures and cities between 2004 and 2020 in order to test the relationship between cultivated land resources and economic growth empirically and ex-plore the mechanism of transmission between them. The results indicate a"resource curse"effect in the development and use of Xinjiang's cultivated land resources.Meanwhile, there is a significant negative correlation between the provincial per capita GDP growth rate and the abundance of its cultivated land resources. The abundance of cultivated land resources impacts regional eco-nomic growth through water resource utilization, policy support, material capital, and other channels, with degrees of impact of 39.23%,38.2%,and 22.57%,respectively.Based on this, measures such as developing water-saving agriculture, promoting region-al industrial transformation and upgrading, optimizing effective investment in the region, and improving investment efficiency are proposed to promote the healthy development of regional economy and cultivated utilization.
