China's painted pottery art is famous in the world for its long history and richness. Many painted pottery sites found throughout Gansu Province occupy an important position in the splendid ancient culture of our country. The geometric patterns of Gansu painted pottery are both simple and complex, which were cleverly applied to pottery by the ancestors and formed various beautiful patterns. The abstract decoration of the geometric patterns of painted pottery reflects the aesthetic concept of people at that time.

With the continuous development of economy, our traditional culture is facing great impact and challenge. Exploring how to make innovative design of painted pottery geometric patterns and analyzing the factors that produce geometric patterns, how to better inherit and develop Gansu painted pottery geometric patterns is an important topic worthy of in-depth exploration. This paper takes the geometric pattern of Gansu painted pottery as the research object and the design of cultural and creative products as the starting point, through the analysis of the development and artistic characteristics of the geometric pattern of Gansu painted pottery, and finds the application method of the geometric pattern in the design of cultural and creative products. Firstly, the paper studies the geometric patterns of Gansu painted pottery from the aspects of organization form and expression technique, deeply explores the artistic characteristics and cultural connotation of geometric patterns, and summarizes the characteristics of geometric patterns in decorative art. Secondly, under the application principles followed by contemporary design, combined with excellent cultural and creative design cases, the paper summarizes the innovative application methods of painted pottery geometric patterns in cultural and creative product design, and provides corresponding principles for future design practice. Finally, through the summary of the geometric pattern design of painted pottery, the role, influence and enlightenment of painted pottery geometric pattern in contemporary cultural and creative product design are obtained. Gansu painted pottery culture is a bright pearl of Chinese traditional culture, and its painted pottery geometric pattern is the blueprint of modern cultural and creative product design. It is expected that the old and the new collide with different sparks, so that the traditional culture has stronger vitality in the modern society.
