Particle swarm optimization with opposition-based learning and parent centric crossover

摘要Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a new population-based stochastic search algorithm, which has been proved to be a powerful tool for global optimization. Although PSO has shown good search abilities on some optimization problems, it easily falls into local minima in solving complex multimodal problems. The main reason is that particles in swarm are attracted too fast by their previous best particles and the global best particle. To enhance the performance of PSO, a hybrid PSO (HPSO) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The new approach employs two strategies including oppositionbased learning (OBL) and parent centric crossover (PCX). Experiments are conducted on eight well-known benchmark functions with D = 30 and 200. Computational results show that our approach outperforms other five PSO algorithms in terms of the solution accuracy and convergence speed. © 2014 ISSN 1881-803X.
